The problem with loading the thumbnail
Forums:
I bought your product yesterday, I really hoped that it was no worse than a Photomechanic in terms of speed, but it was disappointed. Every time he opens a folder with a lot of photos, he downloads all the thumbnails again and it takes forever. Even the built-in explorer of any system does not behave this way. What is the problem? Dear Yury:
Dear Yury:
1) What image format are you talking about: RAW (what camera), or TIFF/PNG/JPG?
2) What storage media do you use?
FastRawViewer is able to store/cache pre-generated thumbnails, see details in the manual: https://updates.fastrawviewer.com/data/FastRawViewer2-Manual-ENG.pdf#pag...

canon cr3, external hdd slows
canon cr3, external hdd slows down very much with miniatures, external ssd works much faster. But other viewers work even faster with HDDs. Why are the thumbnails calculated again after opening?

1) Most today media is fast
1) Most today media is fast enough to not use on-disk thumbnail cache for RAW files, that's why on-disk thumbnail cache is disabled for RAWs by default. You may turn it on via Preferences (see manual link to specific page in my 1st reply)
2) For a (slow) external HDD you may need to tune FastRawViewer parallel level for both thumbnail building and for RAW data prefetch, it is also documented in the manual: https://updates.fastrawviewer.com/data/FastRawViewer2-Manual-ENG.pdf#pag...
3) It may make sense to check the actual operating speed of external devices: the wrong cable (or port) can reduce the reading speed several times

The disks and cables are fine
The disks and cables are fine. I've been filming for 15 years. But your application surprised me, it is very interesting with a lot of settings, but the endless generation of thumbnails spoils the whole impression. Write instructions on how to make sure that thumbnails are not generated again when opening the working folder. This folder is working and has been opened more than once. Nothing is clear in the pdf manual, it is written for programmers, apparently, there are terms that are not familiar to the photographer. I just want to quickly select my shots, put labels and ratings, then sort everything into folders. As a result, I sit waiting every time the application calculates the thumbnails, no matter which disk it is, HDD ssd or internal. I closed the program, opened it and everything in a circle in the same folder.

As I wrote in my first answer
As I wrote in my first answer: you can enable saving generated previews to disk cache. The parallelism tuning mentioned in the second answer can also help a lot
