I would like to take up this feature request again.
I feel the same way as the thread starter:
Changing a rating is not so obviously visible because the color of the stars doesn't change, only the fill. I'm only concerned with the panel for the stars (and color assignments).
Increasing the contrast is definitely helpful, but not enough for my requirements.
I will briefly explain why this is so important to me:
For me, sorting out the photos is done exclusively via the ratings. And of course, with a large number of photos, this should be as quick and efficient as possible.
When I look through the photos in FRW, only the image and the panel with the stars are visible, the ratings are on individual shortcuts (as close as possible to the arrows).
When looking through the photos, it would be perfect if I could see the rating for the currently visible photo only out of the corner of my eye, so that I can quickly look through and rate the photo series.
For this to work with the "eye angle", it would be important for me that the stars get a color when changing from 0 stars to x stars, ideally yellow, preferably configurable.
This is perfectly solved in the program "FastPictureViewer." But unfortunately this program is not available on the Mac.
This is actually the only wish I would have for FRW. Otherwise the program is perfect.
