Custom WB parsing to Next File

Forums:

This concerns automatic parsing of Custom WB setting to next file when scrolling through a folder of files.
If there are no EXIF files existing for any of the files, then parsing of Custom WB works as expected. If however any  one of the files has an existing EXIF file generated by FRV,  then parsing of Custom WB fails.   The scenario is as follows:-
A folder of RAW files is being processed - say 100 files.  Simply randomly click filmstrip to quickly view a few of the files causes an EXIF to be written for the clicked files. Let say file number #1, #5 and #30 were clicked & viewed.  (no WB being performed at this viewing).
All files are shot in controlled lighting situation (studio) so file #1 is decided for setting representative Custom WB. Now #1 Custom WB needs to be parsed to  all other files by scrolling one by one thru them all. Custom WB is scrolled automatically to #2 #3 and #4 but not to file #5 because #5 has an EXIF.

Next, WB for file #5 (usually default is as-shot) is now parsed to #6 #7 #8..... #99. #100 and all files are EXIF'd as-shot #5 remains as-shot. All remaining files have become as-shot WB.  None of remaining files can automatically receive Custom WB because #5 has an EXIF file.
What is the correct procedure to work around this issue?

Dear Midori,

You mean XMP files I guess, not EXIF.

randomly click filmstrip to quickly view a few of the files causes an XMP to be written for the clicked files

In FastRawViewer Preferences, on XMP tab, do you have "Force XMP files creation" checked?

Ah, yes I meant XMP.
I had "Force XMP creation" checked.   This is because no XMP were written if set OFF.
I tried again with "Force XMP creation" un-checked and tested again. Closed FRV.  Deleted all XMP files and then repeated random clicks.
Now, only first file #1 has an XMP written to disk. None of the others clicked obtain an XMP file, although the full size image in FRV does show that Custom WB setting from #1 has been displayed correctly on other image views.
Could it be because my files are already existing in LR5 before testing FRV?
When I open LR to view images with adjusted WB, exposure, etc.  only the first image #1 highlights external XMP is available and other files remain with no highlights.

Dear Midori,

If in FastRawViewer "force XMP" mode is "OFF", the XMP file will be recorded (or modified) only if you modified at least one of the following: WB, Exposure, Orientation, Title, Description, Rating, Label. The modified parameter (parameters) will be recorded in XMP (if however "force" is "ON", all the parameters will be recorded as soon as the raw file is opened, and subsequently modified in XMP in sync with the modifications you are making to those parameters in FastRawViewer). Also, you may be interested to read about Propagation in the manual and in Tips to see how the changes you've made to the first file can be recorded as XMP for the next file you open.

FastRawViewer respects existing XMP sidecar files when opening a raw file, but if XMP is deleted, or never existed, the file is opened without applying any external adjustments.

I understand your comments and read Manual and Tips carefully.
Nevertheless, the only way to obtain XMP files when WB AND/OR Exposure are changed is with the following Preference settings:-
Image Display >   Exposure Correction on File Open > Autoexposure  (I want the autoexposure function executed for each subsequent image indivudually)
White Balance > WB for next file same camera > same as previous
[ X ] Keen WB for next file same camera ON
XMP > [ X ] Force XMP file creation ON
Your comment "If in FastRawViewer "force XMP" mode is "OFF", the XMP file will be recorded (or modified) only if you modified at least one of the following: WB, Exposure, Orientation, Title, Description, Rating, Label."    Is not correct as WB and Exposure are changed for each image, but no XMP is written unless Force XMP File Creation is ON.   This is how my first post was submitted.
The first file has Auto Exposure applied, and I manually carry out Custom WB (ALT right click) on the first file.
Now, I am able to scroll thru the folder and eacg file will have XMP created with same custom WB and persaonalise Auto Exposure.
This seems perfectly correct and logical. If Force XMP file creation is OFF then even though WB and Exposure has been changed "as previous", no XMP's are created.  So this is why I am confused and have Force XMP file creation ON.
But, if user reiterates thru the folder in any way (say - re adjust Custom WB) and then re-scroll thru the folder, then existing XMP files are not updated with changed custom WB.  This seems incorrect and illogical.
