Hard to avoid featuritis.  You'll end up like Photo Mechanic, which is a good but complex product.  Inevitable.
I want tiff file support.
(and someone else wants yet something else!)
I could also want recursive folder opening, e.g., find all the pics.  But, this has complexity:  it's one thing when there are just 2 more levels, no more than 20 total folder, and no more than 250 images.  But, if it happened when you opened "Pictures" that would be a problem!
So, tiff higher priority than recursive folders.

Dear Sir:

Thank you for being our customer.

I don't think comparing with Photo Mechanic makes sense, they are not a raw viewer. We are staying on the subject of raw, and we support those TIFFs that are raw. Also, folders with raw files are seldom recursive, especially on memory cards.

Dear Sir: TIFF support is available in FRV 1.5 beta:https://www.fastrawviewer.com/blog/FastRawViewer-1-5_Beta

Downloaded this and tested it. Appears OK except:
For PNG files most of the exif data is missing. When I open the exact same file in Acorn, all of the exif data is visible.
There seems to be no such problem for tiff files.

Yes, as noted in beta release notes:

PNG: EXIF not extracted and displayed yet, but we plan to implement that before the release.

We expect to provide PNG/EXIF support in next beta update in a few days.

Great.  Hadn't seen the release notes.

PNG EXIF display is implemented in FastRawViewer 1.5.0 Beta2 (build 1464).

Note: EXIF data in PNG files is stored after image section and PNG format is built for sequential access (only forward). So it is not possible to extract EXIF data from PNG without full image section decompress (this is slow for large images).

So:

  1. In Single file view mode  EXIF data is displayed for PNG files
  2. In Grid mode it displayed only if thumbnail is not fetched from Thumbnails cache, but created from PNG file
  3. It is not possible to sort PNG files on EXIF timestamp because metadata extraction tooks too long time (b/c of full decode) for these files.
