To small feature requests
I've moved from FastPictureViewer, because of tragic Sony ARW demosaic, but i do lack 2 small features.
1. Could You change labeling to on/off on one button? Now I need to shortcut additional button on mouse to reset label if mistaken. Perfect would be reds: on/off on same button, switchable. And so on. The same to stars.
2. For fast culling we need to focus, extremelly. So we use full screen with black borders, no additional tabs or menus. Unfortunatelly i FRV i cannot turn on, slightly visible label/rating notofication - just for a second. I have to know what status i've got in exact moment. Furthermore barelly visible floating panels with labels/stars in fullscreen would be great.
Yes we can make almost that look when we hide surrounding panels, but always stays very distracting upper and lower bar.

Dear Sir:
Dear Sir:
1) Unfortunately, no. Assigning different actions (set rating/unset rating) to single key will add too much complexity.
For example, if you've selected two files, one with 5-star rating and one with 1-star and use '5' key to assign 5 stars, what should happen with file already having 5 stars? Should it return back to previous state?
2)
A: 1-second notification: FRV has this (in Lightroom style): Preferences - XMP - Ratings & Labels - Visual feedback for rating/label change.
B: floating panel: you can drag XMP Metadata Panel from dock area to image area, than use Gear menu - Opacity to change opacity.
Also, you may turn on Rating/Label indication in bottom bar via Menu - File - Customize - Customize bottom bar

incredible speed ;)
incredible speed ;)
ad. 1 button1 - red, button2 - yellow.
B1 - add red, B2-change to yellow, B2 - no label, b1 - red, b1 - none, b2 - yellow.
Same for stars. It works great in FPV. I dont know its the best way, but it one less button, and, for me, more natural in workflow. Add red... eee no, cancel - same button. No additional brain activity ;)
ad. 2 Oh great. Thanks for tip. Almost. ;)
Its a little bit offensive and require reading. Small, very small red square, or small stars would be more easy to spot. But it generally do its work.
Floating panel, when i press TAB for real fullscreen dissapears with the rest of UI.

On/off actions plus different
On/off actions plus different selections between on/off will work very counterintuitive.
Try to use rating/label indication in the bottom bar. 'Visual feedback' style was inspired by Lightroom and not customizable in current version.
Preferences - Panels - Hide floating panels -> change to Do not hide.
