Is there a way to not create XMP files when updating rating?

Whenever I give a rating to a photo it always creates an XMP file. Is there a way to prevent this or atleast move the XMP files to a different folder? Also is there a use for these XMP files? If I disable XMP creation it seems I can't rate photos.

FastRawViewer never modifies RAW files, so the only way to store rating/label (in a way compatible with other applications) is to use sidecar XMP files.

According to XMP standard, sidecar XMPs are stored in the same folder, with same file name (and different extension)
