The Most Common Questions We Get, and the Answers to Them

• Starting from July 25, 2021, we introduced FastRawViewer V2. When you receive a notification e-mail, the version of the License key is stated explicitly in the e-mail:
• The FastSpring notification e-mail sent from "LibRaw Checkout" mailer@fastspring.com, with the subject line: "YOUR NAME HERE, here is your receipt for the order XXXX", contains the line: FastRawViewer V2

• Our own notification e-mail sent from support@fastrawviewer.com, with the subject line: "FastRawViewer purchase / Order #XXXX" contains the line “This is License Key for FastRawViewer Version 2”.

• To check which version of FastRawViewer you have, use:
• Windows: Menu – Help – About
• Mac: Menu – FastRawViewer – About

• Version 2 License keys will activate:
• FastRawViewer version 1.7.5
• FastRawViewer V2

All keys that were purchased prior to July 25, 2021 are Version 1 License keys. Version 1 License keys will activate only FastRawViewer V1.

If you tested FastRawViewer version 1.7.3 or 1.7.4, but purchased a key after July 25, 2021, it will not activate the version that you have installed. You will need to update to a new version of FastRawViewer; either download and install FastRawViewer 2.0, or, if you need an older version (for example if you have hardware incompatible with V2), download and install version 1.7.5

We always recommend Copy-Pasting the License key into the FastRawViewer activation dialog.

Every single symbol on the License key is significant, and the whole License key must be entered into the activation dialog exactly as you received it.

On that note, if you are manually entering the License key, it is easy to mix up some symbol pairs (digit “1” and letter “I”, 0 and O, 2 and Z, G and 6, etc.) and enter the key incorrectly. Therefore we reiterate: we recommend Copy-Pasting the License key into the FastRawViewer activation dialog.

• FastRawViewer V2 is intended to be installed “on top of” older versions:
• The majority (but not all, see below) of the settings, shortcuts, and file viewing history will be inherited from the older version.
• File association, and the Right Click – Open With menu will be inherited.
• The settings that will not be inherited:
• Graphics mode settings: FastRawViewer V2 has new hardware requirements and therefore cannot inherit old settings.
• New performance settings: the performance settings in FastRawViewer V2 have been changed significantly, so when launching it for the first time the settings will be set to defaults that correspond to your computer configurations.

• Therefore: simply install the new version of FastRawViewer above the old version:
• Windows: launching the installer with default settings will execute everything correctly
• Mac: simply drag the application icon to /Applications, replacing the old version.

• In FastRawViewer, we have implemented our own file selection mode – we call it Advanced Selection Mode – because the default mode (familiar from Windows Explorer/Mac Finder and other programs) has several disadvantages when it comes to culling a lot of photos:
• Accidentally single-clicking with the mouse de-selects everything without any option to restore the selection.
• The current (active) file is always part of the selection.
• The context menu and/or Drag-n-Dropping changes the current/active file to whatever file was mouse-clicked.

Advanced Selection Mode is free of these disadvantages; misclicks don’t destroy the selection, to change a file’s selection status, you need to either check the checkbox on the file icon or use Ctrl-Click (Mac: Cmd-Click).

Selecting a range of files using Shift-Click (with the default settings) will use, as the start of the selection range, the last file whose selection status was changed (was last Ctrl-Clicked on); if no such file exists, then the selection range will start with the first file in the list.

• In FastRawViewer V2 this behavior can be changed by using Preferences – Selection – Shift-Click: start of selection range:
• Last Checked or unchecked: the selection range for Shift-Click will start from the last file for which the selection status was changed (whether by the checkmark or Ctrl-Click).
• Last checked: the selection range will start from the last file for which the selection status was changed, but only if it was set to selected.
• Active (current) file: the range starts with the current file (if it was not Shift-Clicked)
• Active file/last selection changed: the range starts with the current file, but if it was shift-clicked then with the last checked or unchecked.

In case it is impossible to determine where the range starts (there is no current file, there is no file whose selection status has changed, etc.) then the selection will start with the first file in the folder.

If you prefer the “standard” selection mode (like the one in other programs), turn off the setting Preferences – Selection – Advanced Selection mode: single click does not ruin selection. Please keep in mind that if you do this, then it becomes pointless to open files in secondary subviews in Multi-window mode through either drag-n-drop or the context menu: the file that you click will become “active/current”, so it will always be opened in the main window.
